You can run the super 600 with just one shell in the shell plate and it will function the same as a 600jr. I have a 12ga 600jr and a Texan loader from the 60's in 20ga. JMHO but I would not lump the adjustable charge bar and the Spindex kit together as "upgrades." The Spindex is designed and produced by Mec. I can't conceive of anyone that had the newer design wishing to go back to the old. The adjustable charge bar is a device made by another company that was designed by another company to fit a mec.

Bumping up your payload with the same powder charge might be asking for trouble. It doesn't take much to exceed shotgun pressure limits of 11,500 psi for 12 gauge. If the load isn't a "book" load, don't shoot it. Might switch to a slower powder with more bulk. 17 grains of powder doesn't take up much space in the case.
