As an FYI to anyone else, Ithaca offers a service for the pre-1963 Model 37s where they machine the receiver to accept current production M37 barrels which, by the way, are interchangeable without fitting. The very first gun in 1968 I was financially able to buy was the Ithaca mdl. 37. I bought a 16ga "Featherweight" with a 28" Modified barrel without a rib. I later added a 26" Deerslayer BBL and a 26" IMCYL with a rib. The Deerslayer BBL was a smooth bore with rifle sights.Both are good, servicable guns. I own a '40s vintage Ithaca M37 12 ga field grade with a fixed modified choke 26" barrel, a '50s vintage Ithaca M37 20ga deluxe grade with a polychoke 26" barrel (beautiful gun), and a late '80s model Remington 870 Express 12ga with a 28" screw-in choke vent rib barrel.
