So yeah, it could definitely have survived 10-30 years beyond 1936 and then ended up in a tiny fragmented population finally dying out in the early 1960s. If it was still around in the 90s, then I believe it is still around today as well. I think it's very unlikely that it survived all the way into the 90s and then suddenly went extinct.
