For home defense, First two out are game loads, next two 00 Buck, followed by two slugs....escalation of force for any situation.The SXP is about $350 and the Nova is $400. They both feel and fit well, maybe the Nova a bit better, but as a left handed shooter, the Nova’s pump release placement is annoying. Posted July 30, 2010. The only advantage of the Super Nova is the interchangable butt stock. But, I don't believe Benelli makes one that is 1" shorter, which is the only one worth changing to. I also am not a fan of pistol grip shotguns. For me, the pistol grip slows down transitions.

Generally a waterfowl gun won't be a great home defense option unfortunately, but a shotgun isn't the best home defense option anyways. If you insist on it being one gun for both, I'd either buy a Benelli Nova/Supernova and deal with the longer barrel for home defense, or I'd buy a Mossberg 500 with a 28" barrel for hunting, then buy a 18-20" barrel for home defense and just swap barrels when ...

It feeds in smooth and ejects just as smooth. You expect Benelli to have a premium price point, but the SuperNova isn't a bank account-breaking shotgun. It seems to be in the same league as Remington's 870s and Mossberg's 590s. That's an excellent value for a very ergonomic and very modern, feature-filled shotgun.

The Benelli is a GREAT gun, and cost me about what I paid for both the Mossy's combined. If your budget is small, go with the Mossy's, they'll do the job reliably.
