Hi, I have a 2011 Odyssey with about 155k miles, we're the original owners and have followed regular maintenance schedules. The dealer is advising a valve adjustment and valve cover gasket replacement at a cost of ~$1,200. That seems excessive, and we're not hearing any tapping or the like. It is running without issue.

These prices are insane…don’t get me wrong there is some labor involved but $700+ to pull the fairly easily accessible valve covers is crazy. Figure ~4hrs tops to do this if you’re taking your time. I could probably do it in two hours as I’ve done a couple Honda valve jobs.

If nothing else, I'd imagine the carbon build-up under the valve cover could be significant by that point.
