I use my Wuta pricking irons constantly and am very happy with them. I almost always use the #8. I have 7, 8 and 10. It's probably just a personal preference. I consistently use both the obverse and reverse irons. I prick both sides of the leather and use the obverse on the front and the reverse on the back.

I use the 4mm irons paired with 0.4mm thread in most cases. I would not say that pricking irons are superior to diamond chisels only that they are more preferred tools for European style leather crafting. The stitching is elegant enough in my opinion and the spacing is absolutely fine for both small and mid size goods.
