The Ba-Zn system was investigated by differential thermal, metallographic and X-ray analysis. Among the five intermediate phases identified, the Ba 2 Zn, BaZn and BaZn 13 compounds melt congruently at 360 °C, 340 °C and 885 °C respectively, while BaZn 2 and BaZn 5 form peritectically at 380 °C and 635 °C. Three eutectics are formed: between Ba and Ba 2 Zn at 345 °C (25.0 at.%Ba or Zn.
