Ford 6600 tractor problems.

My Ford 6600 is used for cutting and baling hay. I was cutting yesterday and took a five minute break and when I got back in the tractor, the PTO did not want to engage. It finally did, but it seemed balky. Once engaged, it worked perfectly. Don't worry much about the oil in the steering box, it is replenished by the pump. In fact, depending on the age of your 6610, it may not have a steering box, but an orbit motor. Change the filter, fill the reservoir, cycle the steering a couple times and refill the reservoir. Mark the order that they come off the pump, this will prevent a major headache when you put them back on. Then pull the injectors out. I think Ford model 5000 is offered with only hyd operated pto clutch. Therefore I suggest to check hyd pressure on RH side of trans case. IIRC pressure should be in the 165-175 psi range. Possible pto problem could be failed pto control valve,oil supply tube or pto clutch seals leaking. BigT and Ultradog.
