I'm just seeing this thread for the first time, but I was going to comment that it could either be a failure in the VTM-4 system OR a different failure that has disabled the VTM-4 system causing the light to illuminate. In your case, it was obviously the latter. VTM-4 is variable torque management tho so related to traction control or torque vectoring AWD if they had it back then.
